Where does one Begin? At the beginning of course…..

…..close your eyes, say a prayer of thanksgiving to the Master Painter and creator of the Universe, breathe in a breath of quiet and ask Him to use your eyes, hands, ears to paint a Masterpiece and watch it unfold….Let’s begin shall we?

Lord use my hands, eyes and mind to paint the Masterpiece You want me to paint!

The most important thing before you open the doors to painting as your creative expression is to become highly aware of the nature around you. What piques your interest? What things do you notice? Butterflies, birds, trees, water, surf, rivers, snow, summer or winter or spring or fall….what speaks to your creative muse?

Really examine the objects of your interest, perhaps art or photos on http://flckr.com, or on http://pinterest.com or a favorite magazine, or a photo you have taken. All artists have resources they use for painting, you can upload some from the Internet or find your own, cards and postcards are a great way to begin, or ads in travel magazines….I happen to have a passion for the sea….the shore and sunsets and palm trees. Discover yours! And create a folder or shoebox to store pictures of reference or perhaps favorite sayings or quotes you can add to your painted masterpiece, I do this often and it makes it ever so personal!

I have posted a few here, for you to see what I mean.beach chairs and waterMts with pines

florida shorelineBegin now…..to observe, clip and save images that speak to your soul! Once you decide on the one for you contact me for information on how to begin to paint your own masterpiece.  Remember, you always start from the back on a canvas and work forward. Divide your canvas where you want the horizon line to be after you decide if you want a horizontal or a vertical painting. NEVER divide the canvas exactly in half in equal parts, always go above or below the middle  depending if you want more emphasis on the sky, or the water, or the foreground. This form of planning in your head determines depth and adds to the perspective of your painting to help to make it more realistic. Can’t wait to hear from you. Hope we dip brushes soon, it’s a totally relaxing and expressive hobby and venture……let me be your guide won’t you?
